Canada has attracted over 330,000 new international students to study in their universities, and they are inviting more Filipinos to take the Student pathway.

According to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), in 2021, Canada approved 13,207 study permit applications from the Philippines, which is more than 50% of the applications filed by Filipinos.

But in 2022, the number of approved study permit applications went down to 3,269 out of 6,152 applications, still more than half of the applications submitted from the Philippines.

More Filipinos studying in Canada

From the recent data, it’s apparent that the number of applications drastically went down when compared to 2021. However, the surge in the number of applicants in the latter year was not without reason. Many of the approved applications in the aforementioned year were from 2019. Thus, the high accumulated number of applications approved in 2021.

In that context, applications that were approved last year are still significantly higher. It has also been predicted that more Filipinos will consider studying in Canada in the coming years, which is in line with Canada’s plan.

Filipino International Students

The number of Filipinos in Canada who graduated with a bachelor’s degree in the last five years has been more than 2% of the Canadian population aged 25 to 34. The number is steadily increasing per year.

With the consistent increase in the number of applications submitted to Canada each year. The Philippines has outclassed the majority of Canada’s other source markets around the globe.

In 2021, the country became the fourth largest source of international students in Canada, then in the following year, the Philippines soared to become the second largest source of international students.

Why is Canada so attractive to Filipino International Students?

Being among the top sources of international students in Canada, Filipinos have several reasons why they chose to study in Canada. The first thing you’ll have in mind is the beautiful sceneries that are unique and can only be found in Canada, and how accepting and polite the locals are.

However, these are but the least of the reasons why Filipinos would go abroad to study. After all, what Filipinos want is an overall better life that can only be obtained by certain factors that Canada can offer.
