Atty. Ken Ziegler, Q.C.
Education
Ken is a graduate of the University of Saskatchewan and received both a Bachelor of Arts degree (B.A.) and a Bachelor of Laws degree (LL.B.) in 1972. He was called to the Saskatchewan Bar in 1973. Ken was appointed Queen’s Counsel (Q.C.) in 2015.
Practice Areas
Ken’s law practice involves many years of experience in Immigration and International Transactions, in addition to commercial transactions, business law, banking, and finance law, and real estate law. Ken has been a business mentor and business planner/advisor to many organizations in Canada and Internationally.
Professional and Business Involvement
Ken has been very active within his profession and the business community in Saskatchewan. He is a member of the Law Society of Saskatchewan and has also been a member of the Canadian Bar Association.
Ken has held a number of leadership roles in the Saskatoon Chamber of Commerce, having served as President of the Chamber and Chair of various committees. Ken has also been a member of the North Saskatoon Business Association, the Saskatoon Regional Economic Development Authority, a former Director of the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce and an Ambassador in the Province of Saskatchewan Ambassador Program. Ken acted as a Director with Wanuskewin Heritage Park. He also was a Director with the University of Saskatchewan Technologies Inc. Ken served as the founding President of the Prairie Centre Policy Institute. He is a former Director of the Rocky Mountain Trade Corridor (Canada/USA) and has acted as a representative of Inter-American Development Bank, Washington, D.C.
Ken has held memberships with the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, the Canadian-Shanghai Chamber of Commerce, the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong, the Canadian- Vietnam Chamber of Commerce in HCM City, Vietnam, the Canadian – Thailand Chamber of Commerce in Bangkok, Thailand, the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in the Philippines and the Asia Pacific Foundation. Ken has also been actively involved in Saskatchewan Trade and Export Partnership (STEP).
Ken continues to act as an Honorary Trade Advisor to Canada on behalf of the Ministry of Commerce, Royal Thai government.
Ken is a Director on the Advisory Board for the World Trade Centre (WTC), Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
International Initiatives
Ken has undertaken many initiatives in Asia, Europe, Africa, Central, and South America as well as the Caribbean to attract investment, new business, and immigrants to Canada. He has acted as a mentor on behalf of Food Beverage Canada to help Canadian businesses in the Asian market. In the United Kingdom and Ireland, Ken has hosted a number of investment attractions and immigration seminars. As a result of this, Ken has worked with business owners and investors from Europe representing their legal, immigration and business needs as they relocate and invest in Canada. Ken has also hosted a number of investment attraction and immigration seminars in Asia. Additionally, Ken leads trade missions comprised of business investors and industry from Canada to Asia. In turn, Ken hosts business owners, investors, and trade groups from Asia entering the Canadian market, and represents their legal, immigration, and business needs as they settle, work, invest and set up business operations in Canada.
Ken works with Canada’s overseas posts in Europe and Asia in order to facilitate the legal and business needs of business investors in Canada from Europe and Asia. The overseas Canadian Posts Ken has worked with include Canadian Embassy and Trade offices in Hong Kong, China, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, India, and the Philippines.
On behalf of Food Beverage Canada, Ken has led Trade Missions to Hong Kong, Macau, Thailand, Vietnam, and the Philippines.
Ken organized, managed, and led a multi-year project on behalf of the Food Processors Associations in the Provinces of British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba as well as Food Beverage Canada relating to bilateral trade, and investments. The project covered bi-lateral trade, commercial transactions, and foreign direct investment from Asia into the Western Canadian food processing industry.
On behalf of these Food Processing Associations in western Canada, Ken has led numerous Trade Missions to Hong Kong, Macau, Vietnam, Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, China, and India. Ken has also hosted incoming Trade Missions from the Philippines, India, Thailand, China, and Indonesia.
