Last October 15, Prince Edward Island held a draw inviting 211 candidates to apply for a provincial nomination.
According to the Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program (PEI PNP), of the 211 issued invitations, 184 primarily went to candidates in the Express Entry and Labour Impact categories. The remaining 27 invitations were issued to candidates in the Business Impact category.
PEI’s Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) allows them to invite immigration candidates who are able to contribute to the province’s labour market needs, through their Labour Impact and Business Impact categories.
The Labour Impact category is divided into three different subcategories:
- Skilled Worker, which invites skilled foreign workers;
- Critical Worker, which invites skilled foreign workers who can fill positions under Canada’s National Occupational Classification (NOC) Skill level C or D;
- and International Graduate, which invites recent graduates from recognized accredited PEI universities and colleges.
Candidates interested in applying through this stream must have a valid job offer and support from an employer in PEI. The PEI PNP did not specify the minimum score required for this category.
On the other hand, the Business Impact category is primarily focused on foreign entrepreneurs who wish to own and operate a business in Prince Edward Island. The Business Impact category invites candidates through their Work Permit stream.
To receive a nomination for this draw, candidates from the Business Impact category needed to obtain a minimum point score of 97.
The PEI PNP also has a stream linked to the federal Express Entry system, allowing them to select from the pool of Express Entry applicants.
Express Entry applicants are issued a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score based on a number of human capital factors, such as age, education, work experience, and language skills.
Express Entry candidates who receive a provincial nomination are automatically awarded an additional 600 points to their existing CRS score, effectively guaranteeing them an invitation to apply in the next Express Entry draw.
Those interested in receiving a nomination from PEI must create an Expression of Interest (EOI) profile in the PNP. Candidates are then scored on a points-system unique to the province. The highest-scoring candidates are then given an invitation to apply.
The PEI PNP did not specify the minimum score for candidates invited through the Express Entry category during this draw.
Prince Edward Island’s Provincial Nominee Program (PEI PNP) is one of many pathways aspiring migrants can take to Canada.
