On August 25, the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program’s (OINP) second batch of Human Capital: Masters Degree Stream candidates received their invitations to apply for provincial nomination.
Earlier this month, the OINP launched a new immigration stream for international masters degree and PhD holders. With these new streams, the province hoped to provide more opportunities for skilled international graduates to settle and thrive in Ontario.
These new programs were created as part of the OINP’s Employer Job Offer category, which also includes the In-Demand Skills, International Graduate, and Foreign Worker streams.
All 326 candidates were required to have filed an Expression of Interest (EOI) with the OINP. Once an applicant has submitted an EOI, Ontario then ranks them based on a number of human capital factors. These factors indicate a candidate’s capacity to settle and thrive in the province.
Each candidate is then given an EOI score. For this draw, the OINP invited candidates with an EOI score of 37 points. Candidates now have 14 days to apply for a provincial nomination from Ontario.
More on the Human Capital: Masters Graduate Stream
The OINP’s Masters Graduate Stream is for international students who have obtained a master’s degree from an eligible university in Ontario. The program provides these applicants the opportunity to immigrate to the province without requiring a job offer.
In order to be eligible for this stream, applicants must:
- Have completed the requirements to obtain a master’s degree;
- Have graduated from an existing master’s program at an eligible university in Ontario;
- The program of study must have been at least one year in length and must have been completed on a full-time basis.
- Submit the application within two years of obtaining their master’s degree.
- Demonstrate residence in the province for at least 12 of the last 24 months before the application submission date.
- During the application period, applicants may be residing in the province with legal status (i.e., study permit, work permit, visitor record) OR residing outside of Canada;
- Applications from potential applicants who are in implied status at the time of applying are accepted
- Applicants must intend to live and work permanently in the province.
Those who wish to apply through this provincial nominee (PNP) stream must submit an EOI. To obtain points for their EOI profile, the OINP will rank an applicant based on the information they submit.
