Express Entry: Canada Invites 374 PNP Candidates

Express Entry: Back-to-Back CEC and PNP Draws

On January 20, Canada held another Express Entry draw of 2021, inviting 374 candidates from the Provincial Nominee Program.

This is the third draw of the year so far, only two weeks after the first two successive draws of the year held on January 6 and 7 respectively. Similar to the first draw, this recent Express Entry round targeted candidates from the Provincial Nominee Program specifically.

A provincial nomination guarantees an Express Entry candidate an additional 600 points to their Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score. For this recent draw, the minimum score was 741 points.

The federal Express Entry system manages Canada’s pool of economic-class immigration candidates. Under the system, interested applicants may apply for the following economic-class migration programs: the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP), and the Canadian Experience Class (CEC).

Once an applicant has submitted their profile into the Express Entry system, they are then given a ranked score based on multiple human capital factors. Among these factors are age, education, work experience, language skills, and more. This is how candidates obtain their CRS scores.

At the end of 2020, Canada was able to send out 108,350 Express Entry invitations, the highest number of invitations sent out in a year in the history of the program thus far. Canada was able to do so primarily due to their initial strategy of targeted draws at the start of the pandemic. Towards the end of the year, however, they were able to resume all-program draws including FSWP and FSTP.

So far, it is looking like Canada is choosing to return to targeted Express Entry draws. This recent PNP draw will likely be followed by another CEC draw within this week.

As of this round, Canada has issued 5,374 invitations to apply (ITAs) for permanent residency.
