Canada has invited 381 candidates from the Provincial Nominee Program to apply for permanent residency in the latest Express Entry draw.Β
For this draw, a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of at least 717 points was needed to receive an invitation to apply (ITA).Β
The high score can be attributed to a unique privilege that an Express Entry candidate can receive if they have successfully received a provincial nomination. An additional 600 points is awarded to their total CRS score, effectively guaranteeing them an invitation to apply for permanent residency in the next draw. Without the nomination, candidates for this draw had CRS scores as low as 117.Β
Compared to scores for other PNP-focused draws for this year, however, this Express Entry round had the lowest.Β
Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) established a tie-break rule for this draw. Candidates were only able to receive an ITA if they managed to submit a profile to the federal Express Entry system before March 16, 2021 at 21:20:50 UTC.
As of this draw, 55,771 Express Entry candidates have received invitations to apply for permanent residency in the first four months of 2021. The IRCC has continued the trend of focusing on PNP and CEC candidates, who are more likely to already be settled in Canada and will have an easier time completing their permanent residency applications.Β
About the Express Entry System
In order to manage the growing pool of economic immigration candidates, Canada created the federal Express Entry system in 1995. In order to qualify for permanent residency, applicants who are interested can choose to apply to any of the following economic-class migration programs: the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP); the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP); and the Canadian Experience Class (CEC).
Once an applicant has been able to successfully register a profile in the system, they are then given a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score, a ranking that awards them a number of points based on factors such as age, education, work experience, language skills, and more.
