Recently, the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) held a Tech Draw and invited 108 eligible workers to apply for provincial nominations.
The invitations were issued on October 6, through British Columbia’s Tech stream. In order to be eligible for the stream, candidates needed to meet the requirements for either the BC PNP’s Express Entry BC or Skills Immigration categories.
Applicants also needed to have an active profile registered in the BC PNP’s Skills and Immigration Registration System (SIRS). Each candidate is also required to have a valid job offer from one of British Columbia’s 29 listed tech occupations in order to qualify.
For this draw, BC Tech Stream applicants were required to meet the minimum scores:
- Express Entry BC: Skilled Worker – 80 points
- Express Entry BC: International Graduate – 80 points
- Skills Immigration: Skilled Worker – 80 points
- Skills Immigration: International Graduate – 80 points
Candidates who have received an invite have at least 30 calendar days to submit their application for nomination.
As of this draw, British Columbia has now invited a total of 9,000 provincial nomination applications this year. The BC PNP continues to hold regular draws inviting high-scoring candidates.
More on the BC PNP and the BC Tech Stream
British Columbia focuses on offering provincial nominations to skilled workers with in-demand occupations. Those in permanent residency can do so through the province, by registering a profile to their online Skills Immigration Registration System (SIRS). Once a profile has been registered, it is then ranked based on a number of factors that determine a candidate’s potential to acclimate to the province. Some of these factors include: education, work experience, language skills, and ties to British Columbia.
Earlier this year, the province announced that they would be upgrading their Tech Pilot program into a permanent BC Tech Stream.
As previously mentioned, candidates are required to have an active profile in one of the BC PNP’s immigration streams to be eligible. They must also have a valid job offer of at least one year in one of 29 listed tech occupations to apply for the BC Tech Stream. The job offer must have been made a minimum of 120 days from the time of application to the program, and must also be a full-time position from an eligible employer in British Columbia. Job offers of more than one year are also eligible under BC Tech Stream.
Once a candidate has successfully received a provincial nomination, they may choose to apply for permanent residency through Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) under the Provincial Nominee Class.
