Express Entry: CRS Score Drops for Latest PNP Draw

Express Entry: Back-to-Back CEC and PNP Draws

On May 26, Canada sent out 500 invitations to apply (ITAs) for permanent residency in the latest Express Entry draw. Candidates in the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) were invited.

For this draw, Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) required a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of at least 713 points, 39 points lower than the previous draw.

For a PNP-specific draw, this is a significant drop. CRS scores for PNP candidates tend to be high, as candidates who manage to obtain a provincial nomination are automatically awarded a total of 600 points to their Express Entry profile. Without the nomination, the lowest-scoring candidates in this draw would have only had a score of 113.

The IRCC invited fewer candidates for this round, and implemented a cut-off time to avoid a tie. Candidates needed to register their profile into the federal Express Entry system before April 06, 2021 at 09:50:14 UTC.

As of this draw, Canada has invited a total of 68,817 candidates to apply for permanent residency. The country continues to remain on track to achieve their immigration goals for 2021, which includes welcoming 108,500 new permanent residents through Express Entry and other economic immigration pathways.

About the Express Entry System

Canada established the federal  Express Entry system in 1995 in order to manage the surge of economic immigraiton candidates interested in applying for permanent residency. Aspiring immigrants who wish to register can do so by applying to any of three economic-class migration programs: the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP); the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP); and the Canadian Experience Class (CEC).

Once a potential candidate is able to register a profile in the federal Express Entry system, they are given a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score based on a points-system that ranks candidates according to various factors such as age, education, work experience, language skills, and more.
