Express Entry: Canada Invites 5,956 CEC Candidates

Express Entry: Back-to-Back CEC and PNP Draws

Canada held one more Express Entry draw before May officially ended, inviting 5,956 candidates to apply for permanent residency.

Candidates under the Canadaian Experience Class (CEC) category were targeted for this draw. Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) set a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of at least 380 points for this draw, which is among the lower score requirements for an Express Entry draw.

At 5,956 issued invitations to apply (ITAs), this draw is the third-largest in Express Entry history, only 44 ITAs behind the second-largest draw size of 6,000. CEC-focused draws tend to be larger in size, including the historic February 13 draw capping at 27,332 issued ITAs.

As of this draw, Canada has invited a total of 74,773 candidates to apply for permanent residency. The IRCC continues to remain on track to completing their goal of welcoming 108,500 new permanent residents through the Express Entry system.

About the Express Entry System

In 1995, Canada created the federal Express Entry system to better manage the surge of economic immigration candidates interested in applying for permanent residency. Interested migrants who wish to register can do so by applying to any of three economic-class migration programs: the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP); the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP); and the Canadian Experience Class (CEC).

Once an applicant successfully registers a profile in the federal system, they are given a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score, and ranked according to a points-based system that awards candidates points depending on a number of human capital factors such as age, education, work experience, language skills, and more.
