Last September 24, Saskatchewan sent out 535 invitations to immigration candidates in the Express Entry and Occupations In-Demand streams in a recent draw conducted by the Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP). Candidates invited by the province will receive a provincial nomination to apply for permanent residency.
As of this draw, the SINP has issued about 5,000 invitations this 2020, with 2,740 invitations sent to Occupations In-Demand candidates, and another 2,245 sent to candidates in the province’s Express Entry-linked stream.
Those interested in being selected by Saskatchewan are required to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) profile with the SINP. Through the EOI system, the province can select immigration candidates with the potential to thrive in Saskatchewan to apply for a provincial nomination to apply for permanent residency.
The SINP assesses each EOI profile and ranks them out of 100 points based on the International Skilled Worker Points Assessment Grid. Candidates with the highest scores are then issued provincial nominations to apply.
For this round, the minimum EOI score required was 82 points for both the Express Entry and Occupations In-Demand categories.
In this latest round of invitations, 278 candidates who received a provincial nomination also had profiles in the Express Entry system. If able to successfully apply for a provincial nomination, candidates in the Express Entry category will automatically receive an additional 600 points to their Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) scores, effectively guaranteeing an invitation to apply for permanent residency in the next Express Entry draw.
On the other hand, the 257 Occupations In-Demand candidates who received an invitation do not have Express Entry profiles. Candidates in this category submitted an EOI profile to the SINP and were selected based on their capacity to fulfill labour market needs, and were chosen from a list of 81 eligible occupations.
Among those who received an invitation were candidates in sales, management, and industrial occupations.
Saskatchewan does not require a job offer in order to be invited. Candidates, however, must demonstrate at least one year of skilled work experience in their profession.
