Last week, Saskatchewan sent out 418 invitations to apply for provincial nomination to candidates with in-demand skills.
On March 24, the Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP) invited candidates through their International Skilled Worker stream, with 183 candidates invited through the Express Entry subcategory, and the remaining 235 receiving nominations through the Occupations In-Demand subcategory.
For this draw, candidates were required to have an Expression of Interest (EOI) score of at least 70 points to receive an invitation. Apart from the minimum score, candidates must also demonstrate that their education is at par with Canada’s standard by submitting an Educational Credential Assessment.
Candidates were also required to have work experience in one of 78-listed occupations under Saskatchewan’s Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP), as listed on their website.
About the SINP
For those interested in provincial nomination from Saskatchewan, they must create an EOI profile through the SINP’s online portal in order to begin their applications. Once registered, they will then be ranked and given a score according to a number of human capital factors, such as age, education, work experience, and language ability. They must also demonstrate their ties and ability to settle in the province. This is the basis for EOI score.
The candidates for this particular draw were given a score out of 100 based on the SINP’s International Skilled Worker Points Assessment Grid. Candidates who were able to score the required 70-point minimum received an invitation from Saskatchewan.
A successful provincial nomination can open many doors for its recipients. Candidates in the Express Entry substream with a provincial nomination can add an additional 600 points to their federal Express Entry profile, guaranteeing them an invitation to apply for permanent residency in the next draw.
Meanwhile, candidates in the Occupations In-Demand substream are not required to have a federal Express Entry profile. This substream is open to skilled workers in-demand skills in Saskatchewan, who have yet to receive a job offer in the province.
Both Express Entry and Occupations In-Demand are just two of the many immigration pathways available to those interested in immigrating to Canada.
