Last September 17, Prince Edward Island selected 345 economic immigration candidates from the Express Entry, Labour Impact, and Business Impact streams to apply for a provincial nomination. This recent draw is another record-breaking round for the province, beating their previous August 20 draw by 40 nominations.
Of the 345 candidates, 313 are from Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program (PEI PNP) Express Entry and Labour Impact categories. Candidates in the Labour Impact category are usually foreign nationals with valid job offers and support from an employer in the province. The Labour Impact category is divided into three subcategories: Skilled Worker, Critical Worker, and International Graduate.
Those interested in applying for this category are required to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) profile to the PEI PNP in order to receive a provincial nomination. The PEI PNP did not disclose the exact number of candidates, their subcategories, or the minimum EOI score under the Labour Impact stream.
The program also did not disclose the number of Express Entry candidates or the minimum EOI score that earned them the nomination.
The PEI PNP has an Express Entry stream directly linked to the federal Express Entry system, which allows them to select candidates for provincial nomination. Candidates who wish to be nominated through Express Entry are required to have an active profile in the federal pool, and an EOI profile in the PEI PNP.
Candidates in the federal system are given a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score based on various factors, such as age, education, work experience, language skills, and more. Those who receive a provincial nomination are automatically awarded an additional 600 points to their CRS score, effectively guaranteeing an invitation to apply for permanent residency in the next Express Entry draw.
Apart from the Express Entry and Labour Impact streams, PEI also issued invitations to 32 entrepreneur candidates in the Business Impact: Work Permit category. The minimum EOI score for this stream was 102.
The Business Impact stream is open to foreign entrepreneurs hoping to own and operate a business in Prince Edward Island.
