The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) kicked off the holidays with a major draw inviting 1,186 candidates.

On December 7, after more than a month of silence, the OINP invited candidates from all Employer Job Offer streams to apply for a provincial nomination from Ontario.

All candidates who received an invitation had registered Expression of Interest (EOI) profiles with the OINP. They were also eligible for one of Ontario’s three (3) Employer Job Offer streams: the Foreign Worker stream, the International Student stream, and the In-Demands Skills stream.

To be eligible for the Foreign Worker and International Student streams, candidates had to meet a minimum required EOI score.

For candidates in the In-Demand Skills stream, no minimum EOI score was released, but work experience in any of the OINP’s listed health, agricultural, or manufacturing occupations was required.

Apart from qualifying for the Employer Job Offer streams, a number of candidates were also invited through the OINP’s Regional Immigration Pilot. Minimum required EOI scores were not provided for candidates invited through the Regional Immigration Pilot.

Ontario wants to invite more immigrants

Every year, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) allocates a limited number of nominations for every province with their own Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs).

This year, the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP)  was allocated 8,350 nominations. An additional 250 nominations were later added for temporary foreign workers in intermediate skilled occupations.

Ontario has issued nominations well past their designated limit, reaching 8,600 nominations on November 10 this year. In a plea to the IRCC, the province’s immigration minister, Monte McNaughton is requesting the federal government to double their allocation in 2022.
