Last May 13, the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) invited over 703 Express Entry candidates with experience in six tech sector occupations to apply for provincial nomination.
All 703 candidates had experience working in the following occupations:
- Computer and information systems managers NOC 0213
- Computer engineers NOC 2147
- Database analysts and data administrators NOC 2172
- Software engineers and designers NOC 2173
- Computer programmer and interactive media developers NOC 2174
- Web designers and developers NOC 2175
For this round of invitations, the candidates held Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) scores between 421 and 451, the lowest CRS requirement in Ontario Tech Draw history since the first draw in July 2019.
Candidates who received an invitation from Ontario or a Notification of Interest (NOI) were drawn from the Human Capital Priorities stream, as OINP usually searches the federal Express Entry pool for candidates who are eligible for the stream.
While a job offer is not necessary for eligibility in the Human Capital Priorities Stream, candidates must have a profile in the Express Entry pool.
The Tech Draws were first established to search in particular for eligible Express Entry candidates with one year of full-time work experience, or the equivalent in part-time work, in one of the six tech-sector occupations.
This recent draw was in the trend of recent PNP-specific Express Entry draws, as well as the result of some Canadian tech companies currently hiring to prepare for economic recovery in Canada despite COVID-19.
