Just before Christmas, Canada gifted 746 Express Entry applicants invitations to apply for permanent residency. 

On December 22, Express Entry candidates who successfully obtained provincial nominations were chosen by Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to receive ITAs. Apart from having provincial nominations, candidates also needed a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 720 points.

Candidates who obtain a nomination from a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) automatically receive an additional 600 points to their Express Entry application, thus the high score requirement for this draw. 

This has now been the eighth Express Entry draw focusing on provincial nominees since September of this year.

Throughout 2021, Canada continued to hold draws inviting candidates from the PNP and Canadian Experience Class (CEC) categories, but this could change in the new year. 

About the Express Entry System

In 1995, Canada created the federal Express Entry system in order to manage the growing pool of economic immigration candidates. Candidates who are interested may apply to one of three economic immigration programs: the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP); the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP); and the Canadian Experience Class (CEC).

Applicants who have registered a profile with the federal system are awarded a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score. A points system that ranks candidates based on a number of human capital factors such as age, education, work experience, language skills, and more, is the basis for the CRS score.
