Canada issued 613 invitations to apply (ITAs) for permanent residency on November 24 to provincial nominee candidates with Express Entry profiles. 

With the sixth PNP-only draw of the year, Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) continues to focus on inviting candidates from the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP). This has led to a lower number of invitations per draw, but a higher score requirement among Express Entry candidates. 

In fact, for this draw, the required Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score needed to be at least 737 points. The high score can be attributed to provincial nominees with Express Entry profiles receiving an additional 600 points for obtaining a nomination. Without the nomination, the lowest-scoring candidate of this draw would have only been 137. 

As of this draw, Canada has issued more than 112,000 invitations to apply for permanent residency this year. 

About the Express Entry System

The federal Express Entry system was established in 1995 in order to manage Canada’s growing pool of economic immigration candidates. Interested candidates may apply to one of three economic immigration programs: the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP); the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP); and the Canadian Experience Class (CEC).

Applicants who have registered a profile with the federal system are awarded a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score. A points system that ranks candidates based on a number of human capital factors such as age, education, work experience, language skills, and more, is the basis for the CRS score.
