Canada once again broke their record for number of landed immigrants in a month, inviting 47,000 new permanent residents in November.
This is now the third month in a row that Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has broken their record for processing new permanent residents.
In September, Canada welcomed 45,000 landed immigrants.
In October, the country beat the record with 46,000 new permanent residents.
According to recent data from the IRCC, Canada has now lande over 361,000 immigrants this year. With one more surge in December, the country could very well reach their immigration goal of 401,000 new permanent residents this 2021.
Given that Canada has been able to consistently process more than 45,000 landed immigrants each month for the last three months, this is a likely achievement.
How Landing Occurs
An individual is considered landed when their legal status is officially converted to permanent resident.
Prior to the pandemic, this usually occurred when an individual was able to physically arrive from overseas. As the world continues to deal with COVID-19, Canada has redirected their focus on landing individuals who are already residing in the country while awaiting their status change.
This is why the current focus for Express Entry this 2021 has been to invite candidates from the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) and Canadian Experience Class (CEC). This is because candidates in these categories are more likely to already be settled in Canada.
With the focus on these candidates, Canada has also drawn closer to achieving their immigration goal for 2021.
