On November 5, Canada held their most recent Express Entry draw, inviting over 4,500 candidates to apply for permanent residency. This is the third time Canada has issued 4,500 invitations to apply (ITAs) during a draw, the largest numbers in Express Entry history.
For this draw, the minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score was 478 points, seven points higher than the previous draw on October 15.
French-speaking candidates were able gain an edge for this Express Entry round, as recently, Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) announced that candidates fluent in French would receive an additional 25 points instead of the standard 15, and that candidates proficient in both French and English would receive up to 50 points, instead of 30.
This update was also the reason for the delayed draw. IRCC usually holds a draw every two weeks, at least twice a month. Last October, only one draw was held on October 15, in order for CRS scores to accurately reflect the recent announcement.
Express Entry draws have continued to reflect how Canada has continued to adjust to the new normal. This latest invitation round has continued the trend of all-program draws, breaking the trend of draws focused on Canadian Experience Class (CEC) and Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) candidates that began in response to COVID-19 measures.
For this draw, a tie-break rule was implemented. In order to receive an invitation to apply, candidates with a CRS score of at least 478 needed to submit their profile to the federal Express Entry system on or before October 26, 2020 at 22:44:19 UTC.
As of this draw, the total number of ITAs issued for 2020 is now at 87,350. This is the highest number of invitations issued in the history of Express Entry.
