The British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) held another Tech Stream draw inviting 85 candidates to apply for provincial nomination.

On October 19, the BC PNP held their second Tech Stream draw of the month. The focus for this draw was to invite skilled tech workers with applications in British Columbia’s Express Entry BC and Skilled Immigration categories to settle in the province.

In order to be eligible for this draw, candidates needed to have an active profile in the BC PNP’s Skills Immigration Registration System (SIRS). As is standard for Tech Stream candidates, a valid job application in at least one of 29 approved tech occupations was also required.

For this draw, BC Tech Stream applicants were required to meet the minimum scores:

  • Express Entry BC: Skilled Worker – 75 points
  • Express Entry BC: International Graduate – 75 points
  • Skills Immigration: Skilled Worker – 75 points
  • Skills Immigration: International Graduate – 75 points

Candidates have 30 calendar days to submit their application for provincial nomination upon receiving the invitation.

As of this draw, British Columbia has issued 10,000 invitations for provincial nomination.

More on the BC PNP and the BC Tech Stream

The British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) was created primarily to invite skilled foreign workers who could supplement in-demand occupations in the province’s labor market.

Candidates interested in settling in BC can do so by registering a profile to the BC PNP’s Skills Immigration Registration System (SIRS). Upon registering, the profile is then ranked and given a score based on various factors that assess a candidate’s potential to settle in the province. Some of these factors include: education, work experience, language skills, and ties to British Columbia.

A major development this year for the BC Provincial Nominee Program was the adaptation of their Tech Pilot program into the permanent British Columbia Tech Stream.

For candidates who wish to qualify for the BC Tech Stream, a valid job offer of at least one year in one of 29 listed tech occupations is required. The job must be offered at least 120 days from the time of application to the program. It must also be a full-time position from an eligible employer in British Columbia. Job offers of more than one year are also eligible under BC Tech Stream.

Once a candidate has successfully received a provincial nomination, they may choose to apply for permanent residency through Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) under the Provincial Nominee Class.
