On February 2, both British Columbia and Ontario held Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) draws inviting a total 216 and 283 candidates to apply for provincial nomination, respectively.
The draws, while held simultaneously, were separate.
British Columbia
The BC PNP invited a total of 208 candidates through the Express Entry BC (EEBC) and Skills Immigration streams, while the remaining 8 invitations were sent out to candidates in the BC’s Entrepreneur stream.
Express Entry BC
Under the Express Entry BC, the cut-off scores to receive PNP invitations were:
- 104, for candidates in the Skilled Worker substream;
- 100, for candidates in the International Graduate substream.
Candidates who receive a nomination through the EEBC will receive an additional 600 points to their application in the federal Express Entry system, which will guarantee them an invitation in the next Express Entry draw.
Skills Immigration Stream
For candidates in the Skills Immigration stream, the minimum PNP scores were as follows:
- Skilled Worker category: 98
- International Graduate category: 98
- Entry Level and Semi-Skilled category: 79
The Skills Immigration stream is an immigration pathway for foreign nationals with job offers in British Columbia.
Entrepreneur Stream
The cut-off score for the 8 PNP candidates invited through the Entrepreneur Immigration Base category was 122. This category allows BC to invite established entrepreneurs who wish to start or take over business in the province.
Ontario
Meanwhile, the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) has focused primarily on inviting candidates with applications in the federal Express Entry pool.
The cut-off scores for the 283 candidates who received a PNP invite were between 466 and 467 points. If they successfully receive a nomination, similar to the candidates invited through the EEBC, they will automatically receive an additional 600 points to their federal Express Entry application.
The additional points to their Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score will guarantee them an invitation in the next Express Entry draw.
Candidates invited through the OINP’s stream were required to have at least one year of experience in the following 10 occupations:
- Banking, credit and other investment managers (NOC 0122);
- Advertising, marketing and public relations managers (NOC 0124);
- Other business services managers (NOC 0125);
- Corporate sales managers (NOC 0601);
- Financial auditors and accountants (NOC 1111);
- Financial and investment analysts (NOC 1112);
- Human resources professionals (NOC 1121);
- Professional occupations in business management consulting (NOC 1122);
- Registered nurses and registered psychiatric nurses (NOC 3012); and
- Business development officers and marketing researchers and consultants (NOC 4163).
It is likely that these candidates are also eligible for the OINP’s Human Capital Priorities stream, which is how they were able to receive a PNP invitation.
