Canada welcomed the new year by welcoming 392 Express Entry candidates to apply for permanent residency!
On January 5 of the new year, Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) issued invitations to candidates from the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP).
Provincial nominees are usually awarded an additional 600 points to their Express Entry profile. Thus, candidates invited during the first round of draws for 2022 needed a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of at least 808 points to apply for permanent residency.
Canada continues to focus on inviting candidates from the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP). Since September 2021, the IRCC has consistently held draws targeting PNP applicants in the Express Entry system, in order to combat delays in the application process. The country continues to deal with a major backlog of immigration applications, and continues to focus on processing applicants who are more likely to have already settled within their borders to avoid delays in processing.
Canada is set to make major changes to the Express Entry system this year as the global pandemic continues.
About the Express Entry System
In 1995, Canada created the federal Express Entry system in order to manage the growing pool of economic immigration candidates. Candidates who are interested may apply to one of three economic immigration programs: the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP); the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP); and the Canadian Experience Class (CEC).
Applicants who have registered a profile with the federal system are awarded a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score. A points system that ranks candidates based on a number of human capital factors such as age, education, work experience, language skills, and more, is the basis for the CRS score.
