The British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) Tech Stream recently issued 89 invitations to eligible foreign workers.
On November 30, the BC PNP invited candidates with occupations in the tech industry to apply for a provincial nomination. All candidates were eligible from the province’s Tech Stream pathway to British Columbia. They also had active Expression of Interest (EOI)profiles registered to the province’s Skills Immigration Registration System (SIRS).
Candidates from the Express Entry BC and Skills Immigration categories were invited. In order to be eligible for a provincial nomination, they were required to reach a minimum score of 78 points on their EOI profiles.
Upon receiving their nomination, candidates have 30 calendar days to file for a provincial nomination.
As of this draw, British Columbia has issued over 10,500 invitations to apply for provincial nomination so far.
More on the BC PNP and BC Tech Stream
Skilled foreign workers with in-demand occupations are welcome to apply for permanent residency through the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program. To do so, they must register a profile to the BC PNP’s online Skills Immigration Registration System (SIRS). The profile is then awarded a score based on a candidate’s capacity to thrive in the province. The main factors that affect this score are a candidate’s education, work experience, language skills, and ties to British Columbia.
In June of this year, the province announced that the BC Tech Stream was to be made permanent for candidates with occupations in the tech industry.
In order to be eligible for the stream, candidates are required to have an active profile in one of the BC PNP’s immigration streams to be eligible. A valid job offer of at least one year in one of 29 listed tech occupations is also necessary to apply for the BC Tech Stream. The job offer must have been made a minimum of 120 days from the time of application to the program, and must also be a full-time position from an eligible employer in British Columbia. Job offers of more than one year are also eligible under BC Tech Stream.
Once a candidate has successfully received a provincial nomination, they may choose to apply for permanent residency through Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) under the Provincial Nominee Class. They may also submit an application to the federal Express Entry system.
