Starting the month off strong, the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) recently held a Tech Stream draw inviting 77 eligible foreign workers to apply for provincial nominations.
Candidates who were able to meet the requirements for the BC PNP’s Express Entry BC or Skills Immigration categories received their invitations on November 2.
In order to qualify, applicants were required to have an active profile registered in the BC PNP’s Skills and Immigration Registration System (SIRS). A valid job offer from one of British Columbia’s 29 listed tech occupations is also required.
For this draw, BC Tech Stream applicants were required to meet the minimum scores:
- Express Entry BC: Skilled Worker – 75 points
- Express Entry BC: International Graduate – 75 points
- Skills Immigration: Skilled Worker – 75 points
- Skills Immigration: International Graduate – 75 points
Candidates who received invitations for this draw have 30 calendar days to submit their application for nomination.
British Columbia has now issued 10,000 provincial nomination invitations this year. The BC PNP continues to maintain regular draws and invite highly-skilled candidates to the province, particularly candidates in the tech industry through the BC Tech Stream.
More on the BC PNP and the BC Tech Stream
Skilled foreign workers with in-demand occupations can apply for permanent residency through British Columbia. The first step is to register a profile to their online Skills Immigration Registration System (SIRS). Upon registration, the profile is given a score based on a candidate’s capacity to thrive in the province. The score is based on the following factors: education, work experience, language skills, and ties to British Columbia.
The BC Tech Stream was made permanent earlier this year for candidates with occupations in the tech industry.
To be eligible for the BC Tech Stream, candidates are required to have an active profile in one of the BC PNP’s immigration streams to be eligible. A valid job offer of at least one year in one of 29 listed tech occupations is also necessary to apply for the BC Tech Stream. The job offer must have been made a minimum of 120 days from the time of application to the program, and must also be a full-time position from an eligible employer in British Columbia. Job offers of more than one year are also eligible under BC Tech Stream.
Once a candidate has successfully received a provincial nomination, they may choose to apply for permanent residency through Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) under the Provincial Nominee Class.
