On August 4, Canada invited 512 PNP candidates to apply for permanent residency through Express Entry.
For this draw, Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) focused on targeting candidates who obtained nominations from the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP). This has resulted in a higher minimum required score for the draw, at least 760 points.
PNP-focused Express Entry draws tend to have higher score requirements, as Express Entry candidates who have successfully obtained provincial nominations automatically receive an additional 600 points to their Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score.
Prior to achieving their provincial nominations, these candidates likely had scores of only 160 points at least.
For this draw, a tie-break rule was applied. Candidates who submitted their profiles to the federal Express Entry system before March 5, 2021 at 22:38:31 UTC.
Canada continues to target PNP and CEC candidates as the pandemic persists. This has been part of the IRCC’s efforts to achieve their immigration goals for 2021. Since PNP and CEC candidates are more likely to have settled in Canada, they will be less likely to experience delays when applying for permanent residency.
As of this draw, IRCC has issued 99,316 invitations to apply (ITAs) for permanent residency to PNP and CEC candidates.
About the Express Entry System
The federal Express Entry system was established to manage the surge of economic immigration candidates interested in Canadian permanent residency. Aspiring migrants who wish to register can do so by applying to any of three economic-class migration programs: the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP); the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP); and the Canadian Experience Class (CEC).
Once an applicant has successfully registered a profile in the federal system, they are then ranked according to a points-based system that awards candidates points depending on a number of human capital factors such as age, education, work experience, language skills, and more. This is the basis of the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score.
