On June 24, Canada held a second consecutive Express Entry draw inviting a total of 6,000 candidates from the Canadian Experience Class (CEC).
Closely following on the heels of the previous PNP-targeted draw held earlier that day, Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has issued a total of 7,002 invitations to apply (ITAs) for permanent residency to Express Entry candidates today.
This is the second highest number of invitations sent out in a single day, the first being the record-breaking Express Entry draw that invited more than 27,000 candidates. That draw, similarly, was also focused on issuing ITAs to CEC candidates, and had a historically low score requirement of 75 points.
For this draw, the minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score requirement was at least 357 points. According to IRCC’s data, this is the second-lowest CRS score requirement in Express Entry history. While much higher than 75 points, this score is still considerably low, as CRS score requirements tend to be at the 400-point mark.
While CEC candidates do have the advantage of having to meet lower score requirements, they must also demonstrate at least one year of skilled work experience in Canada, as well as an intermediate proficiency in English or French. These are key requirements when registering an Express Entry profile through the CEC category.
In order to receive an ITA during this invitation round, candidates also needed to submit their profiles before February 17, 2021 at 10:15:50 UTC. As of this draw, Canada has issued a total of 88,715 invitations to apply for permanent residency this year.
The country continues to work towards achieving their immigration goals for 2021. With over 88,000 issued ITAs, Canada is closer to achieving their goal of welcoming 108,100 skilled migrants. Though the focus has remained on issuing ITAs to potential permanent residents who are already settled in Canada, as vaccination rollout continues, applicants outside the country can look forward to receiving ITAs in the near future as well.
About the Express Entry System
Canada created the federal Express Entry system to manage a growing number of economic immigration candidates. Those interested can apply to one of the following economic immigration programs: the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP); the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP); and the Canadian Experience Class (CEC).
Upon registering a profile in the federal system, applicants are awarded a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score. A points system then ranks them based on a number of human capital factors such as age, education, work experience, language skills, and more. This is the basis for the CRS score.
