On July 7, Canada sent out 627 invitations to apply for permanent residency to Express Entry candidates with provincial nominations.
For this draw, Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) set the minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score requirement to 760 points. The higher score requirement is due to the focus on inviting Express Entry candidates who successfully received provincial nominations.
Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) candidates receive an additional 600 points upon successfully obtaining a nomination from their province of choice. Prior to achieving a nomination, the lowest-scoring candidates for this Express Entry round only had a total of 160 points.
A tie-break was established for this draw. Candidates were only invited if they were able to submit their application before June 14, 2021 at 07:44:05 UTC.
IRCC continues to focus on inviting Express Entry candidates who are already settled within Canada. Despite easing travel restrictions as the global vaccine rollout continues, Canada still has yet to invite skilled candidates from other categories, choosing to focus on PNP and Canadian Experience Class (CEC) candidates.
The country remains on track to achieving their immigration target for 2021. As of this draw, 89,342 invitations to apply for permanent residency have been issued.
About the Express Entry System
The federal Express Entry system was established in 1995 in order to manage Canada’s growing pool of economic immigration candidates. Interested candidates may apply to one of three economic immigration programs: the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP); the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP); and the Canadian Experience Class (CEC).
Applicants who have registered a profile with the federal system are awarded a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score. A points system that ranks candidates based on a number of human capital factors such as age, education, work experience, language skills, and more, is the basis for the CRS score.
