Last June 16, Ontario sent out 940 provincial nomination invitations to international students and foreign workers.

The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) sent out invitations to candidates who qualified for at least one of two Employer Job Offer streams. These candidates were only able to receive an invitation if they submitted an Expression Of Interest (EOI) through the OINP’s online portal.

Ontario then ranks these EOI profiles based on a number of human capital factors set by the province. These are typically factors that determine whether or not a candidate has the potential to settle down and thrive in the province.

Points are awarded based on your occupation and whether or not you have obtained skilled work experience in Canada. The OINP uses the National Occupation Classification (NOC) system to assign points.

Employer Job Offer: Foreign Worker Stream

For this draw, the OINP invited 569 candidates who might be eligible for the Employer Job Offer: Foreign Worker category. No specific occupations or location requirements were set for this draw. However, candidates needed to score at least 38 points on their EOI profile.

The Foreign Worker stream is open to all foreign nationals with an eligible job offer from an employer located inthe province. Applicants are not required to be in Canada during the time of application, as long as they can fulfill all the eligibility requirements.

In order to be eligible for the Foreign Worker stream, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Must have the equivalent of two years of skilled work experience in your occupation.
  • Must have an eligible job offer from an Ontario-based employer.
  • Must intend to immigrate to and settle in the province.

Those who wish to apply through this provincial nominee (PNP) stream must submit an EOI. To obtain points for their EOI profile, the OINP will rank an applicant based on the information they submit.

Employer Job Offer: International Student Stream

The remaining 371 who also received invitations during this draw are likely eligible for the Employer Job Offer: International Student category. These candidates needed a higher score compared to foreign worker applicants, with a minimum EOI score of 66 points.

Candidates applying for this category also do not need to be in Canada at the time of application, as long as the eligibility requirements are met.

Those who wish to apply for the International Student stream are required to:

  • Complete a post-secondary program at a Designated Learning Institution (DLI) in Canada.
  • Have an eligible job-offer from an Ontario-based employer.
  • Intend to immigrate and settle in the province.

Similarly, those who wish to apply must submit an Expression of Interest profile to the OINP, and will be given a score based on the information they submit.
