Express Entry: 6,000 CEC Candidates Receive ITAs

Express Entry: Back-to-Back CEC and PNP Draws

Canada held another Express Entry draw last June 10, focusing on candidates in the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) category.

For this draw, Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) invited a total of 6,000 CEC candidates to apply for permanent residency.

Following the previous CEC-specific draw, the IRCC has continued the trend of lowering the score requirement. The minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score needed for this Express Entry round was 368 points. At two points lower than the previous score, that makes this the second-lowest CRS score requirement in Express Entry history.

CEC applicants tend to have lower score requirements, but are required to have at least a year of skilled work experience in Canada in order to be eligible for permanent residency. Another requirement for CEC candidates is at least an intermediate fluency in English or French.

A cut-off was established for this draw. In order to receive an invitation to apply (ITA) for permanent residency, candidates need to have submitted their application before April 28, 2021 at 05:45:14 UTC.

Canada continues to remain focused on inviting candidates who have already settled within the country’s borders. However, the country is currently in talks to ease travel restrictions as vaccine rollout for COVID-19 continues throughout the world. The IRCC remains on-track to welcome 108,500 new immigrants through Express Entry.

As of this draw, a total of 81,713 invitations to apply for permanent residency have been issued.

About the Express Entry System

The federal Express Entry system was established in 1995 in order to manage Canada’s growing pool of economic immigration candidates. Interested candidates may apply to one of three economic immigration programs: the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP); the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP); and the Canadian Experience Class (CEC).

Applicants who have registered a profile with the federal system are awarded a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score. A points system that ranks candidates based on a number of human capital factors such as age, education, work experience, language skills, and more, is the basis for the CRS score.
