Ontario’s Int’l Student Stream Holds First Draw

Province of Ontario's First OINP Draw of 2022

Last May 18, Ontario’s Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) invited 318 candidates to apply for provincial nomination, all international students.

All candidates who received an invitation likely qualify for Ontario’s Employer Job Offer: International Student Stream. This is the OINP’s newest pathway for international students who have an eligible full-time job offer from an employer based in the province.

For this draw, candidates needed to file an Expression of Interest (EOI) through the OINP’s online system. In order to receive an invitation, candidates needed an EOI score of at least 77 points, apart from the job offer in Ontario.

Other eligibility requirements include:

  • Graduating from a Designated Learning Institution (DLI) in Canada;
  • Completing more than half of their post-secondary program while in Canada;
  • Applying within two years of graduating from a DLI; and
  • Expressing intent to settle in Ontario.

Candidates who submit an Expression of Interest profile through the OINP’s website will be ranked based on a number of factors. The OINP then awards candidates a score according to their:

  • Skill level of their job offer;
  • Work experience;
  • Wages;
  • Education;
  • Proficiency in English or French;
  • Region where they studied or worked, and more.

Ontario utilizes the National Occupation Classification (NOC) system to assign a score based on skilled work, and takes into account Canadian work experience. Other factors are assessed through a points system. The scoring system differs depending on the stream a candidate is eligible for. The OINP also allocates 10 additional points at their discretion to candidates who can comply with labor market needs.
