Express Entry: Lower CRS Scores For Latest CEC Draw

Express Entry: Back-to-Back CEC and PNP Draws

Following their recent PNP-focused draw, Canada held another Express Entry round inviting Canadian Experience Class (CEC) candidates with scores as low as 401.
On May 13, Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) sent out 4,147 invitations to apply for permanent residency to Express Entry candidates in the CEC category. For this draw, candidates needed a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of only 401 points, just one point higher than the previous CEC-specific round.

Despite the lower scores, CEC candidates need to demonstrate at least one year of skilled work experience in Canada, and at least an intermediate level of fluency  in either English or French.

For this draw, the IRCC established a tie-break rule. Only Express Entry candidates who were able to submit their profile before April 29, 2021 at 11:48:14  UTC with a minimum CRS score of 401 received invitations to apply (ITAs) for permanent residency.

As of this draw, Canada has sent out a total of 66,475 ITAs for permanent residency to Express Entry candidates in the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) and Canadian Experience Class (CEC) categories. The country continues to focus on inviting potential immigrants who have already settled in the country in order to achieve the ambitious immigration targets set for 2021.

Canada has set the cap for economic immigration candidates at 108,500 applications, and they are fast-approaching their target.

About the Express Entry System

The federal Express Entry system was established in 1995 in an effort to manage Canada’s economic immigraiton candidates. Applicants who are interested in qualifying for permanent residency can choose to register under three different economic-class migration programs: the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP); the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP); and the Canadian Experience Class (CEC).

After successfully registering a profile in the federal Express Entry system, applicants are then awarded a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score. The CRS score is based on a points-system, where candidates are ranked according to human capital factors such as age, education, work experience, language skills, and more.
