Express Entry: Latest PNP Draw Has CRS Score of 752

Express Entry: Back-to-Back CEC and PNP Draws

On May 12, Canada sent out 557 invitations to apply (ITAs) for permanent residency to Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) candidates in a recent Express Entry draw.

This is the first draw for the month of May, and will most likely be followed with another Express Entry draw focusing on candidates in the Canadian Experience Class (CEC).

For this draw, a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 752 points was needed to obtain an ITA for permanent residency. While the score may seem quite high, it should be noted that PNP candidates with profiles in the federal Express Entry system receive an additional 600 points upon successfully obtaining a provincial nomination. Prior to receiving a provincial nomination, candidates in this draw would have had CRS scores as low as 152 points.

Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) established a tie-break rule for this latest round. Candidates who were able to register a profile to the federal Express Entry system before April 29, 2021 at 10:18:12 UTC were able to receive an ITA for permanent residency.

As of this draw, 62,328 candidates have received ITAs to apply for permanent residency from the IRCC. Canada continues to remain on track to welcoming 401,000 new immigrants, including 108,500 in through Express Entry programs.

About the Express Entry System

The federal Express Entry system was created in 1995 to manage Canada’s pool of economic immigraiton candidates. Applicants who wish to qualify for permanent residency can choose to apply to any of the following economic-class migration programs: the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP); the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP); and the Canadian Experience Class (CEC).

Once an applicant successfully registers a profile in the federal system, they receive a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score that awards them a number of points based on human capital factors such as age, education, work experience, language skills, and more.
