On April 6, British Columbia’s Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) invited 80 candidates to apply for provincial nomination through their Tech Pilot.
Invitations were sent out to candidates in both the Express Entry BC and Skills Immigration categories. Candidates in this draw were eligible for an invitation from the BC PNP if they had active profiles in the province’s immigration streams as well as valid job offers in one of the Tech Pilots 29 listed occupations.
For this draw, candidates needed to meet the following minimum score requirement:
- Subcategory – Skilled Worker: 80 points
- Subcategory – International Graduate: 80 points
The BC PNP Tech Pilot program is a fast-track immigration pathway for candidates with viable skills and experience in the tech industry who can meet the province’s demand for tech workers.

British Columbia primarily focuses on inviting highly-skilled workers with in-demand occupations to apply for provincial nomination. Those interested in settling in Canada through the province may register a profile to their Skills Immigration Registration System (SIRS). Candidates who submit an application are then given a ranked score depending on a number of human capital factors, like education, work experience, language skills, and ties to the province.
Apart from the provincial immigration streams offered by the BC PNP, they also launched their Tech Pilot program back in 2017, and have continued to extend the program several times in the last five years. Currently, the program has been extended up to June 2021.
As mentioned earlier, in order for candidates to be eligible for the Tech Pilot, they must have an active profile in one of the BC PNP’s immigration streams and have a valid job offer of at least one year in one of the Pilot’s 29 listed occupations, with a minimum of 120 days from the time of application to the program. The job offer must also be full-time and from an eligible employer in British Columbia. Job offers of more than one year are also eligible under the pilot program.
The province sends out weekly invitations to eligible candidates with high scores. Candidates who have received an invitation to apply for a provincial nomination have at least 30 days to submit their application.
Once a candidate has successfully received a provincial nomination, they may choose to apply for permanent residency through Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) under the Provincial Nominee Class.
