On November 10, British Columbia’s Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) sent out invitations to apply for provincial nomination to 358 immigration candidates in the Express Entry BC (EEBC) and Skills Immigration streams.
Candidates under both streams were invited through a number of subcategories, each with their own required minimum score to receive an invitation:
- Express Entry BC – Skilled Worker: 92 points
- Express Entry BC – International Graduate: 93 points
- Skills Immigration – Skilled Worker: 93 points
- Skills Immigration – International Graduate: 94 points
- Skills Immigration – Semi-Skilled and Entry-Level: 75 points
British Columbia holds regular draws on a weekly basis, inviting economic class migrants with in-demand skills in order to supplement labor market needs in the province. Due to the coronavirus’ impact, however, BC has only sent out invitations to candidates in specific industries.
Candidates interested in applying for a provincial nomination are required to register online through the BC PNP’s Skills Immigration Registration System (SIRS). Applicants receive an evaluation based on a number of human capital factors, such as work experience, educational level, language skills, ties to the province, and employment location.
Should a candidate successfully receive a provincial nomination from British Columbia, they may apply for permanent residency through Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada’s (IRCC) Provincial Nominee Program (PNP).
Candidates under the Express Entry BC stream who also have active profiles in the federal Express Entry system will automatically receive an additional 600 points should they successfully obtain a provincial nomination. This will be added to their Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score, effectively guaranteeing them an invitation to apply for permanent residency during the next federal Express Entry invitation round.
Candidates invited to apply for a provincial nomination have at least 30 days to submit their application.
